MHCC Planetarium to explore skies
and Black Holes in space, Feb. 8 & 9
Learn about mysterious disappearing stars at the Mt. Hood Community College Planetarium on Saturday, February 8th and Sunday, February 9th at 2:00 p.m.
"Black Holes" will feature images of the effect massive collapsing stars have on their surrounding celestial environment. Although astronomers cannot see these bizarre objects, scientists at the Hubble Space Telescope Institute believe they have discovered evidence of massive Black Holes at the cores of galaxies, including our own Milky Way.
Planetarium Director Doug McCarty will also show visitors how to find prominent constellations and planets in February skies during the 45-minute presentation.
The MHCC Planetarium Sky Theater is located on MHCC's Gresham campus and is wheelchair accessible. Admission is $1, children are welcome, and visitors are seated on a first-come first-served basis.
Public planetarium shows will be presented on the second Saturday and Sunday of each month through August. Custom group presentations are also available at the planetarium. For more information, contact McCarty at (503) 491-7297.
People requiring accommodations due to a disability should contact the MHCC Disability Services Office at (503) 491-6923 or (503) 491-7670 (TTD).
