Eastmont Church Women United to celebrate May Friendship Day
The next monthly meeting of Eastmont Church Women United will be Friday, May 2nd, at Sandy Community Presbyterian Church, 39290 Scenic, Sandy—(503) 668-4543. The meeting begins at 10:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. The Program is a celebration of May Friendship Day. Included, will be a recognition of the Fellowship of The Least Coin.
Lunch will be a potluck buffet; please bring your favorite dish to share with the other ladies. At this meeting, Eastmont Church Women United will be accepting baby shower items for both Snow CAP and Sandy Community Action Center. Come and join your sisters in celebration, action, and prayer. Visitors are always welcome. One visit, you are a guest, the next time, a friend.
Church Women United (CWU) is the nation’s largest ecumenical Christian women’s organization with 1200 local units and fifty state chapters. CWU is a racially, culturally and theologically inclusive ecumenical Christian women’s movement. For over sixty-five years the organization has been dedicated to promoting diversity in a more inclusive society, providing better access for all to quality health care, and working for economic justice.
CWU encourages church women to come together in fellowship, to witness to their faith in Jesus Christ, and to work together toward peace and reconciliation in the world around us.
The local Eastmont CWU membership represents approximately 20 Christian churches throughout the East County area. The group’s financial support comes from constituency and denominational women’s organizations.
Sandy Optimist Club to hold annual plant, tree sale and tour
The Sandy Optimist Club will be holding it's fifth annual plant and tree sale on May 3rd and 4th , from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mt. Hood Outdoors (S.E. corner across from Arco, last light East end of Sandy). This year are offering $5.00 off on any purchase of $50.00 or more. Some of the finest shrubs, trees and plants in the area all from local nurseries.
All proceeds will return to the community to help the youth of the Oregon Trail School District.
The Sandy Optimist Club would like to invite the general public to join them on a guided tour of the high school. The Sandy High School Bond Measure will go on the ballot this fall. Like many members of the club, it has been a good many years since many members of the Sandy community have even been in the school. This Optimist Club tour of Sandy High School is an opportunity for all concerned to be better informed and make their own decision on the Bond Measure when it does come up for a vote. The community is invited to join Sandy Optimist Club at their 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. sale on May 8th, and then at 7 p.m. to join the complete guided tour.

VFW to salute Harden at Memorial Day service
VFW Post will conduct the official VFW Memorial at 9 a.m. Memorial Day, 2008, at Gresham’s Forest Lawn Cemetery. The memorial will be conducted at the grave of Don Harden, killed in Vietnam. Don was a long time friend and schoolmate of the current Post Sr. Vice Commander Val Shaull.
The public is invited. Due to management changes at Forest Lawn itself, seating may not be provided so attendees are asked to bring a folding chair if one is desired.
The ceremony consists of short message given by the Post Commander, Flowers, Wreath and Flag presentation at the grave of Don Harden and taps.

Norma Piper’s works to be presented at Wy’east Artisans’ Guild meeting
On Monday evening, May 12, the Wy'east Artisans' Guild will sponsor a free program about the creations of Estacada artist Norma Piper. Piper works in a variety of mediums, notably fresco, watercolor and she paints on cut and welded steel. Her work appears in many corporate and private collections in the area. Piper’s work can be viewed at her website www.NormaPiper.com, but the community is encouraged to come to Wy’east’s free educational evening to meet the artist and to listen to her tell about her interesting varied work.
Visitors are always welcome to the Wy'east Artisans' Meetings. There is no admission fee or program fee. The meeting will be held at the Clackamas County Bank Theater (just west of the main bank entrance), 38975 Proctor Boulevard, Sandy. Social hour is at 6:30 p.m. The business meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by the evening's program at 8:00 p.m.

Guide Dogs for the Blind—Monthly Graduations: Open to the public. Attend a graduation ceremony and get acquainted with this incredible program. Puppy raisers also get a chance to say goodbye to their graduating dogs, while the graduating class members bid farewell to return to their homes and families with new partners by their sides.
