Fall is here and so is the new arts season in East County
by Kelly Lazenby

The Portland-Columbia Symphony Orchestra (CSO) begins their “Sundays at Three” concert series on Sunday, October 18th, at the Mt. Hood Community College Theater. The 3:00 p.m. concert features pianist Barbara Roberts and two masterpieces: Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 and Sibelius' Symphony No. 2. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.00 students, $25.00 seniors, or $30.00 adults, but a season pass is a way to save money. Contact CSO at (503) 234-4077 for more information.
Mt. Hood Repertory Theater begins their seventh annual season of Readers Theater plays on Monday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m. This year the venue has moved to Mt. Hood Community College and the Visual Arts Theater. There is a new play reading every month, always at 7:00 p.m. October’s play is the popular comedy The Owl and the Pussycat, directed by Corey Brunish. Tickets are $8.00 at the door, or a season punch card is available for $45.00.
The Third Annual Fall for the Arts will be held on October 17, 2009. The event is
held at Jack’s House at the Sandy Airport. The event includes a live auction, silent auction, raffle and “A Taste of Sandy” with culinary delights provided from many local area restaurants.
Finally, an appropriate October play entitled Dr. Frankenstrudel’s Lemon-fresh Laboratory of Horrors, is a children’s theater production by The Nutz-n-Boltz Theater Company. They perform at the Boring-Damascus Grange off Hwy. 212 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and on Sundays at 3:00 p.m. This is a funny, mad-science comedy with plenty of audience interaction, zombies, lightening and experimental creatures gone wild. Tickets are $8.00 at the door with special activities and seating for children. You can also go to www.nnbtheater.com for more information.
Now that the evenings are cool and the days shorter, spend some time indoors supporting our local area arts scene!
