Hoodland Senior Center March 2005 Activities
Meetings and Congregate Dining
Board Meeting: Monday, March 14th, at 10 a.m. at the Center. Everyone is welcome to stop in.
Congregate Lunch: Mondays at 1:00 p.m. at Wildwood Café and Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. at The Territory. No reservations are necessary. Suggested donation: $4.00 each.
Dinner on your own: Wednesday, March 16th at 4 p.m., at Alpine Hut. Order from the menu. If you would like a ride, call (503) 622-3331.
Lunch & Shop Sandy area each Thursday. Sign up by the day before to join us. Center van will pick you up for congregate dining then shopping. No cost from transportation. The van driver can assist with parcels as needed. Each trip needs a minimum of five people.
Clinics
Foot Clinic: Friday, March 4h— Bring a towel and $11.00 or $18.00 for clip & file of toenails and a 10-minute foot massage. Call (503) 622-3331 to make appointment.
Hearing Clinic: Wednesday, March 9th at 10 a.m.— to check hearing, clean hearing aids and replace batteries. Call the Sandy Senior Center , (503) 668-5569. Appointments must be scheduled at the Sandy Senior Center .
Legal Assistance: Thursday, March 10th — volunteer attorney is available for a free 30-minute appointment providing legal assistance in estate planning, wills, consumer complaints, etc. Call Sandy Senior Center , (503) 668-5569, for appointment.
Activities/Classes/Clubs
“Line Dancing”—Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. in the main lodge at the Mt. Hood Village . Everyone is invited.
“Wood Carving Club”—create a new treasure for friends, family and yourself at the Carving Club between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays of each month in the Hoodland Center 's Dorman Room. Please call ahead to reserve your place.
“Stamping Club”—No class in March.
“BACK IN SHAPE”—this workout class meets Tuesday and Friday, 9:15 to 10:00 a.m. at the Center and covers all aspects of health with ease, including cardiovascular to strengthen your heart. Use of light weights is incorporated to emphasize osteoporosis prevention followed by abdominal and lower body workout. (Two- to eight-pound weights are provided or bring your own.) Taught by Cindy Nerison, certified instructor. Senior citizens: $10/month; non-seniors: $20/month. Please call (503) 622-3331 to sign up.
Tai Chi Class—Back by popular demand! Taught by Bonnie Newman each Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Hoodland Center . Tai Chi Class will run for six weeks for $25 or $5.00 per drop in—starting March 16th. Tai Chi is an easy to perform exercise system. Call (503) 622-3331 to sign up.
Trips
March 8th, Tuesday: Learn the MAX train system! We will meet at the Center, depart in our van at 9:00 a.m. for Sandy , where we will catch the local SAM bus. We will transfer from SAM to the MAX train and proceed to the Portland Airport : we will enjoy lunch there. To return, we will reverse the steps. No charge for transportation. Sign-up begins March 1st.
March 15, Tuesday: Bonneville Hot Springs— Located in the scenic Columbia River Gorge. Experience the ultimate in relaxation and luxury. Every day use of two pools, Spa and Sauna for $7.50. We will have lunch-on-our-own in the elegant Pacific Crest dining room. Treat yourself to one or several massages at additional cost by appointment. Call the Senior Center for information and prices on the various massage services. Transportation: $4.00. Leave the Center at 8:30 a.m. Sign-up begins March 1st.
March 19th, Saturday: 11th Annual Milwaukie Center Quilt Show. Stroll through rooms filled with unique quilt displays and tables of finery and other wares. See demos of paper piecing, hand and machine quilting, wool applique and much more. Bring your treasures for appraisal and take a chance on a raffle ticket for a beautiful quilt. Lunch-on-our-own at the Bistro. Transportation and fee: $7.00. Leave Center at 9 a.m. Sign-up begins March 1st.
